State of Access to Information in Liberia

Liberia’s passage of the Freedom of Information Act 2010 was an epoch-making event as it signaled a clean break from the past that had entrenched a culture of opacity in dealing with public resources. At least this was the spirit behind the crafting of a law to serve as a tool of empowerment for the citizenry to participate in the governance of the country.
